Thank you. I saw its website and testimonials. I am waiting to download and try the free version this weekend.

I forgot to mention that I am a Windows user. Apparently, the first two names you mentioned are not supported on Windows. I'll give Vegas a try.

Awesome. Thank you. If I take options 2 & 3 out of your options, what sort of a camera should I buy? As far as I recall, when I was buying my handycam, I checked out all the upscale ones too and neither of them had a jack for attaching a microphone, or I'd have bought that one. I decided on the cheap one because it had all the features I cared about and did the job. Upscale handycams just have better resolution/pixellation (HD). What sort of a camera should I buy and what is it called?

I haven't yet had the time to try out the combinations. Soon will, though. And will report back. Thanks much.

Thanks very much. Actually, at the moment, I simply want to use the periphery to amplify my voice signal within my living room. Would I still need an amplifier for that? Just asking.

My PC has a sound card. So, I'll buy that 1/8" inch to two 1/4" thingies cable.

Another thing in India is that they don't stock all these kinds of cables because people are not as experimentative as they are in the US. As a result, there isn't a big market for the DIY type of things whether it pertains to electronics or carpentry. The US is more organized and people are more aware and they know a lot more and try things out at home.

You're awesome, NReilingh. You know everything. Wow! I know what MIDI is. No, I don't want to record only MIDI signals. I want to record the raw audio signal so I can then manipulate it into different sound formats. Thank you. So, I will buy [this cable] (amazon.com/gp/product/B000068O3C/… "Hosa CMP159 Stereo 1/8In M to Two 1/4 Mono M 10 Ft") as you suggested. Language is a big problem here. I don't know what to tell the store guy. I'll just take a picture and show it to them.

What I have not yet done so far is attach all the 6 speakers of the Phillips system I have and see. I just read what a 5.1 sound format is and it is giving me the feeling that I need to attach all the 6 speakers and see. I could be wrong, though. But I'll try anyway. I'll also try other permutations like changing the RCA cable. May be that one's the culprit. May be the cable is bad. I'll try with a new one. I have about 4 spare ones. I'll try all combinations I haven't tried tomorrow and report back. Thanks much. Learning is fun.

I just re-read your reply and realized that you proposed another alternative that I hadn't tried out. Am going to try this one out now and report back. "Your Videocon amplifier has a passthrough, you could connect the output on the Videocon to the FL/FR plugs on the Panasonic to make use of at least two of the Panasonic's speakers."

I had also tried plugging in the mic into the Phillips big box and attaching its own speakers but then too I had no sound output from the speakers.

Thanks again, NReilingh. I forgot to mention that I couldn't up-vote your answer on the previous thread and this one because I need a minimum reputation of 15 before I can do that. About your reply, I do have RCA plugs that came with the Phillips system. Also, before I posted this question, I had tried out plugging in the microphone into the PC2 input on the Videocon big box, and attaching the Videocon speakers to it but nothing happened.

Before I read your answer, actually, I thought I had it all figured out in my head and was waiting to act on it by going shopping for an audio mixer. I was putting off the decision to go shopping for the audio mixer because of two reasons: * I wanted to know which one was the best within my means and * I was waiting to make some money to finance it. But after reading your answer, I think this issue isn't as simple as I thought and there's more I need to think and I need to come back with more questions. I am going to think more and ask some more questions. Thanks a bunch.

Hi NReilingh, thanks so much for your very elaborate and very helpful answer. I am grateful. I upvoted your reply the same day but didn't reply because I parked the issue mentally because of the language. I live in India, & here I don't know what vocabulary the locals use to refer to the cable and jack types. Though the picture in your links helped a lot, I wasn't sure how to communicate the information to the local attendants at electrical stores. I've updated my question with pictures to seek more help.
