What is the best way of dealing with latency in Ableton? Probably worth mentioning that ASIO is a Windows thing. The equivalent for Mac OS is Core Audio. I don't know what it is for linux. |

What is the best way of dealing with latency in Ableton? @Ed J you're quite right. Calling it "Ableton" has become a habit because people get confused when I say "Live" in person and they of course can't hear the capitalization :) |

How to recognize if Auto-Tune has been used in a recording? Is it needed? Keep in mind that pitch correctors (like Autotune) don't do quick linear jumps if you don't have them set to! You can have it slowly creep in over some time. What you're describing is correct for more extreme settings but a more subtle application will escape this kind of scrutiny. |

Cheap DIY solutions, like using egg cartons They're half-decent diffusors though, which can help with flutter echoes and reduce reverb decay time in the room. But you're right, they aren't worth much as absorbers. |

Cheap DIY solutions, like using egg cartons Just make sure you make some DIY bass traps too! Sofa cushions, sleeping bags, and blankets don't absorb the whole spectrum, so if that's all you have, things can start sounding boxy or boomy from the unattenuated bass. |

Should I use compression in live settings? @Skilldrick That's only true if you raise the level after compression. Some compressors do this automatically, which may be what you're thinking of. |

What does the term quantization refer to? It's worth noting that it's possible to quantize just the beginnings or endings of MIDI notes, as well as quantize only a percentage of the way, so the "cleaned up" data still isn't quite exact, and still retains some of the eccentricities. It's a very useful feature! |
