How do I fix the latency issue when recording through M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro USB Audio Interface? @richaux: is it possible that, when the device is set as the system default, it is then "locked"? Should the OP check to see if the device is the primary audio device and if it is, set the other sound card as the primary? |

Should I just get a gaming PC for audio/video production? re: Graphic design, Adobe products (photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign etc.) do actually make use of the GPU by default. The performance difference with gpu enabled is slight in my personal experience. |

How should you mix / master when producing music for Video Games? For the purpose of clarity: either of these options would mean that the music produced would not need to be tailored to the specific use, correct? |

Lowering Headphone Output to Fit Microphone Input The cassette recorder may be increasing the gain on the microphone input, this is probably not adjustable but that depends on the device. |

Updated: Can I split 1 live stereo input steam into 2 mono streams, in Mac OS I think any DAW would work. You add 2 tracks, set one to the left channel input and one to the right channel input. The input could be a line-in or the computer's stereo mix. The real question is: what do you mean "split live and reuse"? Stereo is already 2 channel and if you aren't storing the data, what is the purpose? |

Home studio minimum setting and cost Note that Reaper is not feature limited when run in demo mode (at least it was this way when I tried it) so you can really experiment with it without any risk. In addition, it is possible to use your existing on-board audio: try ASIO4ALL. I would say a core2duo class of processor is probably the lowest you want. A regular P4 processor is probably not going to work well at even a basic level. Once you get this working and get a feel for the workflow, you can look into investing more cash. |

Converting DVD to still images in this context, I interpret 120fps to mean 120 frame captures per second. In the case of 5 second intervals, you want 1/120 fps (1 screen cap for every 120 frames). Note that NTSC DVD is not exactly 24fps, so there will be a time differential which increases as with playback time. |

Good soundcard for Windows 7, no latency audio + MIDI in/out 1st of all "absolutely no latency at all" is impossible. Second of all, latency is driver related. You probably had problems because you were using DirectSound or Wav rather than ASIO. |

Improving audio quality of MIDI recording Good monitor speakers have a huge impact on the sound as well. The word "laptop" in the original question leads me to wonder how the individual is evaluating the audio: good external speakers or laptop built-ins. |

How to make a fake 3d effect (The Matrix 3d rotation style) from 2 video sources? Depending on your intended use etc, when you consider that 1920x1080 is about 2 megapixels, you might be able to get some friends to bring their cell phones with them to do a "crowd sourced" shot. |

Sampling frequency Vs. Audio Frequency the key to the answers here so far is that the term (Hz) is "cycles per second," but the term "cycle" refers to a completely different thing. |

Assigning analog audio to play with HDMI/DVI video on an A/V receiver somewhere there's an executive saying "that 90 cents worth of lead per unit was the best money we ever spent" |

Generating massive-sounding duplicated noises I have never tried this, but there is a concept for tiling images called the "cicada principle" where you create special tile sets crafted in such a way that their repetition is masked ( designfestival.com/… ). For clapping etc, you could probably adapt this method, make several "tilesets" of claps in different aural settings and loop them randomly to build up layers of seemingly unique tracks built from a small number of parts. |

Recording from Turntables to Laptop causes heavy distortion the OP probably will probably need to adjust the output levels from the mixer OR the input levels on the pc to ensure the outputs are not peaking, correct? |

Can sounds I can't hear be dectected and recorded? As a second comment, I had a similar strange noise in my house. It turned out that the connectors were loose for the house mains power at the breaker board. Over time there was arcing, which further eroded the connections, causing more arcs. |

Can sounds I can't hear be dectected and recorded? as a not-quite-as-old-as-you individual, my hearing in one ear is better than in the other. For instance, on a summer night with all the bugs chirping, it sounds like a rainforest, but if I cover my "good ear," all the high-pitched bug noises (most of them) go away. Its like a frequency cut filter on my hearing. Sounds horrible, but it makes it easy to fall back to sleep. |
