I'm a senior Computer Science/Audio Engineering Technology major at Belmont University. My general hobbies include programming, electronics, and music. Long term electronics project would be a fully analog synth, since I just so happen to be a keys a player and a synth enthusiast. Mostly here to learn but would love to soon know enough to be able to help.

What DAW/recording software are you using? That's something you left of the list that you'll probably need.

I haven't really tried the FatHeads without a good preamp, but as long as you have something that will get enough gain you should be fine. There are several questions about miking into a computer around here. And if you don't find one that answers what you want, feel free to ask more questions. Same for flute question, it's better asked as a question than hidden in the comments.

I'm not sure why the down vote. The question is well formed and the subject matter is on topic.

comment recording with Shure SM7B is surprisingly quiet
Just the FetHead with phantom between the pre and the dynamic would work. The same thing wouldn't work if you were using a condenser instead of a dynamic, unless you had some other source of power besides phantom to the dynamic mic.

The FetHead is essentially a preamp that runs off phantom power that provides a 20 dB boost of fixed gain. It won't work with condensers, but should be fine for any dynamic mics.

110 dBre20µPa may be fine if you're putting the mic up to a cab and blasting it, but to capture something with more dynamic range like vocals, you want to be able to get a decent track volume at 80 or even 60 dB. I wasn't implying that the microphones max volume was dictated by the output level. However, my target gain for recorded tracks is around -12dB on the meters. To get this, my preamp needs around 50 dB of clean makeup gain, which I wouldn't really expect to get from the last 10-15% of a <$300 pre.
