Combining 2 Mono Microphones to 1 mono output with a 4 channel recorder in the middle Be aware, that combining left and right into mono runs the risk of constructive or destructive interference. Opposite phases will cancel each other out, while the same phases will add to each other... at least to some degree. Good mixing engineers will check their mix in mono to account for this, but it's certainly something to be aware of. |

DSLR filmmaking tutorials and tips This one may be tough to answer in its current form. Presently, it's wide open... no constraints whatsoever. To, "learn more about video, from basics to advanced," covers everything, yet points to nothing. Do you have a first project in mind? Have you come across troubles so far? Please edit to narrow your question's scope. |

What are the placards in this picture? @EvanCarroll, well, I guess it's less awkward than looking down at the podium when you're speaking :) |

How do you properly place studio monitors cheaply? I would shy away from plastic stands. You want a speaker stand to be as rigid as humanly possible. I'd use a couple bricks before a plastic stand. (I can't tell for sure of course, but the picture of that riser didn't fill me with confidence :) |

How to use cloning effect if the clips are overlapping themselves? Welcome to AVP! I'm not a video guy myself, though it seems like an interesting question. A word of advice however, perhaps edit your question to include the details of what you have tried. You stated that you "tried this", but the details of that attempt can really help to focus the answers, and hopefully, get you a specific and useful answer. Cheers :) |

Recording - Can you 'see' if multiple microphones are in or out of phase @DaveRook, Imagine you have two large diaphragm microphones. There is a front side and a back side to each. Imagine setting them up with one facing forward, and the other facing backwards. The source of the sound will reach the two microphones at exactly the same time (let's just say). The two diaphragms will move in perfect sync. However, upon reacting to the sound pressure waves, one diaphragm is moving forward through the magnetic field, and the other is moving backwards. You get identical waves recorded, just with opposite polarities. Those are exactly 180 degrees out of phase. |

We'll see what the community thinks. Please have a look at the faq concerning what types of questions are on-topic. Having said that, I'll take a stab at answering :) |

Guitar Sounding Synth Hello Olly, and welcome to AVP! A friendly suggestion... add a bit more information to your question. I think you'll be more likely to get useful answers (and more quickly) if you include information like: what hardware/software you're using; what is your level of expertise; what have you tried already; etc. Cheers |

CamTwist + Blackmagic Intensity Thunderbolt Shuttle Settings Hi Craig, and welcome to AVP! I'm glad you found an answer to your question. I realize that there is a waiting period to "answer" your own question, but now that that has passed, it would be great to have your answer as an "answer" so that future visitors can see that there is one. Thanks, and once again, welcome! |

What's the right setup for recording programming talks? @Jeff Clune, Welcome to AVP! I'm glad you've found some useful information. However, unlike a traditional forum, posts in response to a question are expected to attempt to answer the question. I understand that you don't yet have the privilege to comment, so I've converted your 'answer' to a comment. |
