Equipment: new interface necessary or not? (Using Mackie 402-VLZ3 with 2010 iMac) Pretty much the entire answer. Getting rid of Behringer stuff is never a bad idea anyway, because although it does sound a lot better than your intel MBP sound, IMO it is still to noisy to be useful. Have a look at the brands Presonus, M-Audio (ProFire stuff) and Focusrite, they all have relatively affordable interfaces with quite a good quality for the price. |

How to move a sound back and forth or up and down +1 for mentioning Wave Arts Panorama. (with which I am in no way affiliated, it's just a darn good plugin). |

Reducing breath noise Do realise that you might only need to substract 1 dB to make a difference turning the breath from 'to loud' into 'well audible'. I would start not using a synth + sidechain at all, just apply a gate with the correct threshold that starts substracting one or two dBs, and you might well solve the issue entirely. |

Is source bit depth/sampling rate relevant for mp3 conversion? Ah, in that case I am the one being ambiguous. What I mean to say is if you don't downsample your mix, your MPEG converter will do it for you. :) |

Easy to use open source DAW? By editing your question, you've just rendered the answers already useless and unrelated. I reverted your edits, please ask a new question about SW synths. |
