Where did the 3:1 rule come from? Right, the 3:1 rule is not about stereo, but using multiple microphones in general. In stereo recording you generally will see each stereo pair as one source in this case. |

What is the best volume to work with studio monitors? This is probably more true for mastering than mixing, though. Mixing takes longer, and your ears will get tired on that volume. And you need to make sure it sounds good on all volumes. |

What is the best volume to work with studio monitors? Yes, I both change volume and monitors when mixing as well. Avoids fatigue and lets you hear the music on different levels and different types of monitors. |

How to record the sound of an acoustic guitar with a magnetic pickup? @Ian C: And on topic on both places, showing the futility of splitting musician sites like this. |

Scratchy volume pot Maybe. Maybe not. Using it does help, but it's not a quick fix. |

Wiring a 1/4" headphone jack to headphones. @jlebre: Thats probably the best idea so far. You should make that an answer. |

Wiring a 1/4" headphone jack to headphones. @jlebre: The multimeter will help you figure out which cables go together, but it won't help you figure out which cables are left and which right, and which phase is which. For that you need to try, and alligator clips will help you. But, making such a alligator squid is hardly worth it for just one headphone. |

General rules for panning? I'm pretty sure most regular listeners do not need it to be pointed out. And maybe not everyone finds it distracting, but clearly many do. Hence, calling it a distraction is reasonable. |

General rules for panning? @jlebre: Have you listened to Sgt Pepper in headphones? The complete separation made it feel like I have earplugs and makes my eyes tear. Calling it distracting is being nice. :-) |

General rules for panning? @jlebre: Yes and no. Panning a bass makes very little difference in speakers, because we can't hear where the sound comes from anyway, so there is no point. While in headphones it becomes distracting, as it creates a percieved volume different in the different ears, for the "powerful" reason you mention. |

Amplifier Circuitry Finding the errors in electronic circuits is a complex magic that has very little relations to using them. You probably should contact Blue Sky about that. |

Is source bit depth/sampling rate relevant for mp3 conversion? @Tim: It will do sample-rate conversion at any time when the source samplerate is not the same as the target samplerate. |
