Open-source alternatives for plug-ins. Well as long as it's published and can be used for free I don't see the problem. |

Tape for labeling gear with a marker? It dries out and the glue then sticks on. Yeah, it takes a year or so, but still. :) I've used it, wouldn't recommend it. |

What do various sounds look like on the wave spectrum To develop a visual understanding of it, you need to see it. There are modular synthesizer softwares who have "oscilloscope" modules where you can see what the sound looks like. Look for that. :) Barring that, use Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net) to look at and modify audio files. |

choosing gear and set up for recording live 16ch same time @sims: In theory, at least. But I've checked and the 1010LT sound has no discernible artifacts like that. There is some noise, yes, but that's ordinary white noise. It seems it blocks out any digital interference. My card is located last, meaning that the nearest card is on the "backside" of the 1010LT card, which is then being shielded by the earth-plane. Having say a graphics card on the other side might make a difference. That said the 1010 may very well have less of the white noise as well. :-) |

PC Surround Sound ports and SPDIF? It should be migrated to superuser.com, I think. |

Recommendations for good “bad monitors”? @Evan: There is no need to be rude just because you don't understand the question. |

How can I make “videosongs”? Why would you need a multi-camera setup? |
