What's the difference between dynamic and condensor microphones? I dunno.. pick up pattern is pretty orthogonal to mic type, but it is ambiguous, I'll give you that. |

What's the difference between dynamic and condensor microphones? the cardioid pattern stuff is not really relevant to this question. |

How to deal with the difference in sound when the audience comes in Nice answer. If the events are regular, and always at the same place, you could even record a songv or two with and without an audience, and compare the tracks. Then you'd know what to expect next time. |

I want to learn how to make electronic music. Where do I start? @neilfein: all the more reason to move it there ;P. Music.SE needs all the diversity it can squeeze into its little collective mind. Avp.SE doesn't really benefit from this question. Of course, on music.SE it would be shut down in minutes, for the reason Bob mentioned. |

What specifications should I look for when buying a budget microphone? I added some detail on the Specs section. It's mostly from wikipedia, and could do with a review. |

Should I just get a gaming PC for audio/video production? @ObscureRobot: yeah, that's part of what I was wondering - I mean, how important is a decent video card for, say, HD video production, where you might have 2-3 video tracks running simultaneously (with fades, etc)? I mean, I don't need 150fps running the latest shooter, but I also don't want to buy something that's going to be useless for hi-res video editing that I might end up doing. |

What specifications should I look for when buying a budget microphone? Could you comment on the four specs? ie. what minimum and optimum requirements might be, or what specs are useful in what situations? |

How do I mass convert mp3 to an open format without losing quality? @ColeJohnson the stems are not available as anything other than mp3. The are also not available for purchase, but were free as part of a promotion. Also, AAC is not a completely open format. |

How do I mass convert mp3 to an open format without losing quality? Ardour uses non-destructive editing, as far as I know, it doesn't change the files at all, just saves time codes for where to cut in and out (ie. when you've cropped a segment out of a file). But yeah, for destructive editing you do have a point, saving in WAV would be much more sensible :) |
