I work as a Systems Administrator and a Technical Consultant to the Helpdesk for the EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences) Department at the University of California, Berkeley Campus. This has been my career for the last 24 years which began as an electronics technician. I worked my way to principal electronic tech and then crossed over to systems administration about 12 years ago. My strongest experience is with computer hardware and I am usually the go to guy when laptops and desktops start smoken or won't power up.
One of my most interesting assignments at Berkeley was in 1992. I was put on a special team with NASA trained techs to fabricate an assembly bound for the Arecibo radio telescope. This was a special 4 million FFT based spectrum analyzer for SETI project SERENDIP III under the direction of UC Berkeley physicist Dan Werthimer. I got to build hardware to listen for ET!
In my off hours since 1977 I have been working with music, still photography, and small scale sculptures some involving digital electronics. However in 2008 after a 35 year hiatus I have returned to my own independent cinematic (video) and music productions.
Presently I use a Sony camcorder (HDR-CX500v) and I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 as my main video and music editing suite. I have experience with both Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker, and I am a tiny bit familiar with iMovie. I also have a B.S. in Cinematography from SIU-Carbondale, 1974 and a M.F.A. in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, 1977.

How can I reuse an effect sequence in FCPX? This is stab in the dark. I don't use FCPX but I do use Vegas Pro, in Vegas after you alter a default effect you can save it. E.G. while doing a split screen for showing an A/B comparison I save the "cookie cutter" option I had altered as an effect I could use again. Do you see any icon in the effect function suggesting it can be saved? |

No output sound from midi in cubase I have the Tascam US-800, nothing but trouble, original driver caused my system to crash, updated driver better, but then CUBASE was impossible to get it to work right with the output routing. They had another option besides Microsoft--see if you have that other option and try it. Hope you have better luck than I did. Only using audio side not USB side until I see a better driver from Tascam. |

Sony Vegas 10 Video made from smaller quicktime mov videos look crap on youtube What happens if you "disable resample" in the clip properties before rendering. Any better? |

Recording Gunshots You are very welcome. |

Recording Gunshots You might help us out by letting us know if you plan to use it in a video and if you want to record it as a stereo or mono signal. In video, the pan position should copy the position of the gun in the frame, or off-frame. |

Recording Gunshots Great example, very good recording of the gun, but when you do it make sure that you have a quiet background, there's a truck engine or generator in this one. |

How do I convert FL Studio time (bar-step-tick) to real-world durations? Thank you Friend Of George, perfect! |

Is Open-Source -film production possible with open-source tools? Sorry, but we don't understand each other at all. End of discussion. |

Is Open-Source -film production possible with open-source tools? I am not patronizing you. You seem to be getting all up tight about nothing. My answers are genuine and come from over 35 years as a tech. I would hope that even the dumbest person on the planet could plainly see that there is so much more to making moives than expensive software, cameras, and gear. |

Is Open-Source -film production possible with open-source tools? Morphing is an effect, so is a cross fade, so is adding spherical distortion, and so on, these are assigned in the editing cycle and then RENDERED! I get that you have never used any video editing software yet? Is that correct? You will see the 'light at the end of the tunnel' once you try even the simplest editor, e.g. iMovie or Windows Live Movie Maker. Dabble, get your feet wet so you know what the heck 'render' means. |

Is Open-Source -film production possible with open-source tools? Rendering is the process by which software turns zillions of decisions into a video output. For example, I just 'rendered' a 15 second logo, and it took 15 minutes. Rendering time is dependent on how complicated the tasks are and how much CPU and Memory horsepower you have under the hood. |

Video Output to TV is shutting down on full speed playback of video, or split screen display Sounds good. Am I correct that you are running Windows on a PC? |

How do I export a movie with ultra high frequency sound? Just curious, is this a dog whistle? Most people even with good hearing would have trouble with 19Khz. |

What microphone is used in these videos? When I did my visual examination I noted that the 220 has a slight gold tone to the mic screen which is consistent with the target where as the 120 has an aluminum tone screen. |

3.5 mm vs RCA for home stereo (both unbalanced) I don't think that a TRS vs. rca is at question, likely the TRS has better shielding. Can you verify? |

TV tuner streams low quality TV video I know this is mentioned in the site you listed, but I can not stress how important the antenna will influence the reception. How far away is the transmission tower on the channel that yields a pixelated images? Distance, transmission power, weather, and antenna orientation all factor into this. |

What's wrong with the EQ on this guitar Good one leftaroundabout ! |

What's wrong with the EQ on this guitar Possibly 2 things: 1) barred chords sound like your bar finger does not have enough pressure, hence slight buzz, and 2) remote possibility that the 'room tone' is not a good match. For some reason I am having trouble distinguishing if you are playing nylon strings or steel? Which? |

How to create super smooth slow motion clips in After Effects that will be edited in Premiere Pro Are you only thinking about animation? If you are thinking about live action as well, have you considered Twixtor? They do have a trial version. |
