I work as a Systems Administrator and a Technical Consultant to the Helpdesk for the EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences) Department at the University of California, Berkeley Campus. This has been my career for the last 24 years which began as an electronics technician. I worked my way to principal electronic tech and then crossed over to systems administration about 12 years ago. My strongest experience is with computer hardware and I am usually the go to guy when laptops and desktops start smoken or won't power up.

One of my most interesting assignments at Berkeley was in 1992. I was put on a special team with NASA trained techs to fabricate an assembly bound for the Arecibo radio telescope. This was a special 4 million FFT based spectrum analyzer for SETI project SERENDIP III under the direction of UC Berkeley physicist Dan Werthimer. I got to build hardware to listen for ET!

In my off hours since 1977 I have been working with music, still photography, and small scale sculptures some involving digital electronics. However in 2008 after a 35 year hiatus I have returned to my own independent cinematic (video) and music productions.

Presently I use a Sony camcorder (HDR-CX500v) and I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 as my main video and music editing suite. I have experience with both Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker, and I am a tiny bit familiar with iMovie. I also have a B.S. in Cinematography from SIU-Carbondale, 1974 and a M.F.A. in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, 1977.

Thank you so much. Had no idea that they made a camera that could shoot HD so fast and so nicely, so it wasn't Twixtor. :>

John Rygielski is spot on. Yes, toss us a bone, we need to know what tools you have in your shed, e.g. video editors, or other applications, as well as your level of expertise on each.

comment How best to find literature on motion graphics design
How about messaging the directors of the motion graphic vids you like and ask them if they would recommend a book?

I would say that since things change so much in the field of Motion Graphics as it is heavily technology driven, a book may already be out of date. The field is definitely a "moving target". :>

Hey Zettt, Vimeo has just release the 2012 awards short lists and one of the categories is Motion Graphics, including one on "A History of the Title Sequence" and another "The Fundemental Elements of Design" which is a great way to see what is current. There are a dozen on this page: vimeo.com/awards/vote/motiongraphics

good ones ! Thanks for the augmentation, note, green screens work better with digital sensors while blue screens work better with real film. Can you get halogen's with suitable color temperature/white balance or will she need to use the custom white balance feature on her camera (assuming she has this) ?

comment Will a generator work with a portable DJ setup?
I think 7500 Watt generator will likely be more power than you need, but you should add a 'power conditioner' between the generator and the load to assure clean power. Still you will need to figure out what the peak load is to determine which power conditioner you will need. E.G. a 1500 watt power conditioner can cost you $70 while a 7500 watt rating may cost you considerably more.

A 2800 watt speaker system really does not tell us the true wattage of consumption. If the amp has a plate that describes the input and output, e.g. INPUT 120 VAC 60 CPS, OUTPUT MAX 15 amps at 25 vdc or 375 watts. Speakers are usually way over rated. The idea is this, what is worst case power consumption. If you have an inline watts meter and measure while your gear is at peak load this will be the most reliable info. Other wise the plate info and the rest tends to be over rated and you will be buying a more expensive power system than you need.

comment Best Sony Vegas rendering options for audio-only on YouTube?
Good point. I agree that my Mbits/s is overkill, but then I don't know what happens to audio quality below the 5 MBS mark and so I am going with what I know does work.

The speaker wattage is just a clue, please make a measurement of the total load in Watts this is the key to the answer.

comment Removing horizontal scan lines from video?
This may be subject dependent, a subject with inherent lines like a fence or pin stripe shirt that are the source of the interference. If you can not show the subject, how about your best shot at describing it?
