I work as a Systems Administrator and a Technical Consultant to the Helpdesk for the EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences) Department at the University of California, Berkeley Campus. This has been my career for the last 24 years which began as an electronics technician. I worked my way to principal electronic tech and then crossed over to systems administration about 12 years ago. My strongest experience is with computer hardware and I am usually the go to guy when laptops and desktops start smoken or won't power up.
One of my most interesting assignments at Berkeley was in 1992. I was put on a special team with NASA trained techs to fabricate an assembly bound for the Arecibo radio telescope. This was a special 4 million FFT based spectrum analyzer for SETI project SERENDIP III under the direction of UC Berkeley physicist Dan Werthimer. I got to build hardware to listen for ET!
In my off hours since 1977 I have been working with music, still photography, and small scale sculptures some involving digital electronics. However in 2008 after a 35 year hiatus I have returned to my own independent cinematic (video) and music productions.
Presently I use a Sony camcorder (HDR-CX500v) and I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 as my main video and music editing suite. I have experience with both Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker, and I am a tiny bit familiar with iMovie. I also have a B.S. in Cinematography from SIU-Carbondale, 1974 and a M.F.A. in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, 1977.

What causes a buzzing that goes away when I touch the jack? Does your bass have one or two single coil or humbucker pickups? |

Any way to batch stabilize video files? Do all your video clips need the same kind of stabilization? E.G. in Sony Vegas Pro (video editor) there is a stabilization feature but has numerous parameters to set depending on if the source material is handheld camera, moving object within frame, pan, tilt, etc. It's hard for me to imagine a one stop process that fixes it all. Generally, stabilization is carefully applied in a trial and error manner to allow for each unstable shot to be stabilized. |

How to improve live sound within poor stage layout? Ok, good points, so I have appended this to address a more basic set up. |

Removing [“Bounding box”] in Sony Vegas Hey BillyNair, I won't be able to take closer look right away. Since you mention an upgrade/patch, I think it would be best for you contact Sony directly. Start here: sonycreativesoftware.com/support/technicalsupport.asp |

Sharing music mixes and copyrights? That's cool that you want to do this the right way. I have only needed to ask permission once so far and that was for a non-commercial video release for some excellent recordings of engines. I got their permission by explaining my project in detail and showing them the final result. Normally all my stuff is 100% original so I don't have much experience in getting permission, specifically for the big names. I suggest you explore limited licensing as well when you negotiate. The key work is negotiate. |

Sharing music mixes and copyrights? If you are mixing tracks that someone else recorded than you need the owner's permission to broadcast it, otherwise you are out right stealing material that does not belong to you. |

Removing [“Bounding box”] in Sony Vegas Hey BillyNair, I have both versions. I will take a look and see if I can copy your error. Off hand I would say it sounds like some text editing feature is still engaged if you see that box. Are you sure all the pop up windows have been dismissed? |

Audio output from Mitsubishi HC4000 to speakers doesn't work This particular set of RCA connectors are called "component video" which means they break the video signal down to three parts but this is different than RGB. More detailed information is here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video |

Shoot moving clouds oops didn't get in 5 seconds...Good one dwwilson. I have some extra things to add: In Post Vegas for example can only speed up or slow down by a factor of 4, so an hour sped up would be 15 minutes. However, there maybe plugins that will extend the range such as Twixtor. In production, the best in camera time-lapse work I've seen is Adonis Pulatus, he recommends one exposure every 1 second with a 1/2 second shutter time--this gets rid of blipps. Most experienced in camera time-lapse pros will recommend "Drag the Shutter" to make things smooth as you can't really fix the blips in post. |

How do I 'drag' waves in Sound Forge? I did check my version last night, it's a home version, "studio". It only allows for one stereo track at a time. Here's what might help, go to file, click new, check out the pop up window for track settings--better versions will allow you to create a time line with multiple tracks. Put your tracks in this multitrack timeline--then try to move them. |

How do I 'drag' waves in Sound Forge? Sorry about that, I don't have my version of Sound Forge in front of me. I will go home tonight to verify what I was saying and update you tomorrow. I use both Sound Forge and Vegas Pro. In Vegas Pro which I use all the time, what I described works fine. I am wondering if your wave file you are putting on the time line just can't move right, because it may need to trim off some head? You know you can manually trim these by just clicking on the object and sliding the head or tail toward the center. |
