Re-encoding MP3 reduces quality I think what the asker is getting at is that the psychoacoustical redundancies would have been removed during generation of the original MP3. When generating a WAV from MP3, technically the MP3 is a lossless compressed version of the generated WAV file, so why isn't the original MP3 produced when the generated WAV is compressed with the same parameters? I don't know any details but I remember reading that the MP3 encoder necessarily applies some sort of rounding off during quantization hence the further quality loss. |

Can't export .mov with premiere pro cs5.5? Which OS are you using? From your Q, it appears that you just want to convert a clip, has it been edited in any way? If not, that opens up non-Premiere possibilities. |

Choosing the right program for video editing Yeah, this is not the place for a discussion. In the answer, your description makes it sound like Vegas is some sort of bizarre hybrid. Just wanted to clarify that it's not. It's a NLE like Premiere, and does everything needed to sequence and stack audio/video/image files. It just happens to provide track-level compositing modes like in AE, and its audio tools are unusually strong for a NLE. |

Choosing the right program for video editing Did you have anything specific in mind? Because all the capabilities you listed for PPro apply to Vegas as well. Till recently, Vegas had limited ability for plugins, but with OFX support, I suspect that will change in a year or two. |

How do I remove audio from all files in a directory with ffmpeg? My apologies. My original answer was Avanti, which would do the job very simply. Then I saw that you were running linux, and Avanti is Win-only. I had used WinFF a long time ago and is cross-platform and has a job queue. However, you have to form a preset by manually inputting the command line (not the case in Avanti). The reason for suggesting a frontend is that you don't need to worry about quirky syntax issues such as parameter sequencing or flag overrides or the like. If you can do this on Win, Avanti will do the job easy. |

Youtube is by far the largest video hosting site on the net, and I've rarely seen problems of the sort shown in this case. This is most likely the result of some undesirable encoding parameters in the video sent to YT, most likely the scheme of I/B/P frames used. |

Try rendering from Vegas to uncompressed AVI in native resolution i.e. 848x480 @ 24 fps. Then convert in SUPER to mp4 at a bitrate of about 2500 kbps; keep the native resolution and frame rate. Note that your source footage isn't HD, so it will look blurred if upscaled. |
