If you're never gonna have a machine with firewire, then there's no reason to get it. But I've never heard of a latency-free USB audio interface.

comment When going digital what are some things to be aware of?
@Natster - Interesting question, but it's difficult to know where to start with this. Do you need to know how to identify an equivalent system? What system do you have now? Are you recording to tape, or sending an analog feed from a mixing board to a DAW? Of do you just want to discuss the issue? (If the latter, this board is the wrong place for a discussion thread.)

comment Preventing tangled mic cables
Lately, I've taken to getting colored masking tape and drawing stripes on it with permanent marker, then wrapping it around the cable near the connector. You can do it on both ends, and it's fairly unobtrusive but easy to spot when you're looking for it.
