How to remove noise caused by very loud sounds in a recording? You might be able to EQ away some of the painful harmonics. But your best bet will be to re-record with lower levels and/or a compressor next time. |

What is this block diagram symbol? TRS cables are generally shielded. The circuit diagram indicates that the shield portion of the TRS plug (which should be connected to the shield of the cable) is grounded to the chassis common ground of the mixer. |

Route Sound From Programs Into DAW (Windows) I'm not trying to convince you to change your platform, just noting that I really don't know anything about audio on Windows. Let's try to stay on-topic. |

Route Sound From Programs Into DAW (Windows) Good question, but I haven't used Windows for audio work in over a decade. You should add this clarification to your question. |

what hardware can I use to connect a Laserdisc player to my laptop? The DVL-9 may have a high quality composite decoding system, so I wouldn't completely give up on S-Video. You won't really know until you try it, and S-Video input shouldn't increase your cost much. |

How can I compress my bassline like the linked Boris Brejcha track? I edited your question for clarity to draw focus that you want to know how to achieve a particular style, not just how to compress in general. |

Tascam DR-40 for Lecture and Speeches? On one hand, none of the portable recorders have built-in shotgun mics, so you are going to have to deal with cardioids or omnis no matter what you get. On the other hand, just about everything supports 24bit which gives you a TON of headroom for gain in post. Remember that each bit doubles your resolution. If your goal is to produce a 16bit mp3, you are throwing away 8bits of resolution when you normalize anyway. So if your levels are low, you are just throwing out unused headroom. |
