How to reduce wind noise / audio overload on built-in microphones? A "dead cat" will do the most for you; most of the folks I know who do field recording very definitely prefer the dead cat to kill the wind noise. Noise reduction will sometimes work, other times not - for instance, if you're recording an inherently-noisy source, like surf, noise reduction will not work well at all. |

handling m-audio mobilepre USB outputs in Apple logic I'm not quite clear on what you want to do. You have pre-recorded tracks, and you want to have the drummer lay down another track in sync with the click? You have pre-recorded tracks and these will be played back with the drummer performing live to the click? Or something else? The MobilePre manual seems to say that you have exactly two outs, with the headphone jack mirroring outputs 1 and 2. |

Audio Interface from Laptop to Monitors/etc Behringer unfortunately tends to be inconsistent; one particular device may work like a charm, another may be a complete dud. The recommended mixers will probably cost more, but will more that likely be working out of the box and continue to do so. I do own a small Behringer mixer which I use as a cue mixer; it was cheap enough that I wouldn't mind it terribly if it died. My main mixer is a Macke 1202, owned since 1995 and still in perfect shape. |

Looking for a Sound Editor for Mac OSX Agreed. I've tried several, and I use Audacity almost exclusively. (I use Fission for ringtones, as it's easier to use for a quick snip.) |

Microphone windscreens — how effective / necessary are they? +1 on the dead cat. They can make a tremendous difference when recording outside. |
