I am a dedicated Christian who loves Macs. I've been homeschooled all my life and currently trying to finish up my junior year of high school. I enjoy just about anything that has to do with computers. I AppleScript and shell script a little bit.
I am currently a LAMP programmer with Inventaweb.net.
I have also been editing video for almost 8 years (yes, since I was 9). I started with iMovie HD and have since then worked my way up to Final Cut Pro 9 and Final Cut Studio. I co-founded a film company called OffBlock Films. We do work in the Central Valley and have a vision of producing a feature length film at an unknown point in the future.
You can find me on my sometimes updated blog: The Geek Tech Blog, on Twitter and on App.net.

comment How do I record multiple mics to a computer without a mixer?
Awesome! I must have missed that support link. And when I say "split up", I mean each track is input from a mic. That's what you mean right? Thanks!!

So I'd be able to split up the recording into two tracks? If so, can you provide a little more detail? What software can do this and how?

Yes, aggregate devices will work, but I'm trying to record each mic as a separate track. However, aggregate devices are great for someone who doesn't have the need to have separate tracks, so +1

comment Does having a long 3.5mm cable degrade audio quality?
Yup. That's the main thing. I want a good sounding mic, but it doesn't have for be spectacular.

Yah. It'll save time later.

Okay. I will see what I can do. What I may end up doing is buying a cheap mic, and once we have the money, invest in an XLR mic.

Okay. Will do. I will keep that in mind when purchasing mics.

@TravisDtfsuCrum This is audio for video and I'd like to have multiple mics going into the computer so I don't have to sync them in post.

No, I said 3.5mm/XLR to USB. :-) This is more of a theoretical situation, than a real one, so I don't have item #'s.

I'm trying to get a cheap(er) shotgun mic and I'm mainly looking at 3.5mm mics, rather than the much more expensive XLR mics. Length-wise, I'm going to be using a boom, so anywhere from 5-10 feet.

Oh. What would I be looking at for that? (I haven't started looking at X>USB devices yet)

Thanks! As a side note, the mics actually will either be a 3.5mm to USB or an XLR to USB, so they aren't just USB mics.

Whilst this may theoretically answer the question, it would be preferable to include the essential parts of the answer here, and provide the link for reference. Thank you!
