Looking for compressed standard definition file format to share footage between Final Cut Pro 7 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Thanks @AJ Henderson yes I am aware of the meanings - i.e. lossless (decompressed lossless file is identical to original, e.g. as in FLAC for audio) and lossy means information thrown away but smaller file size/data rate. |

Looking for compressed standard definition file format to share footage between Final Cut Pro 7 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 +1 upvote. Which "flavour" of MPEG4? There seem to be a few: AVC, H263, H264, with container this, container that etc. etc. Can you advise on which MPEG4 type Final Cut will support - for Adobe I would expect it to support it as it does very well at supporting most formats. If you can get back to me I would like to accept your answer. I can't really understand why these would have visible quality loss when MPEG4 is also used in HD video (and the file sizes compare favourably to uncompressed AVI). If I choose the correct quality settings then surely there will be no noticeable degradation? |

Effective working at audio/video editing sessions (avoid fatigue making steady progress) +1 Thanks for your input. I guess the difference between editing and illustrating a book might be that with editing you start with raw content whereas with illustration you might sometimes start from scratch. Where they are the same is that both involve iterative work, going over the same content to refine. |

Which music sw should I consider for aligning audio waveforms to MIDI piano roll, looping MIDI, managing program change, SysEx? I believe sample accuracy is possible in the main window - according to: apple.com/logicpro/specs "Sample-accurate audio editing in the Arrange window" - the arrange window being: help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/9.1.6/en/logicpro/usermanual/… |

How to do a “deep” / full copy of a nested sequence in Premiere Pro CS6? (i.e. constituent components are all copied) +1 and accepted - it tells me that what I want is not quite possible (yet). Thanks. Which version of FCP by the way do we see this in? I also have FCP 7 - the last (I think) version before X. |

How to do a “deep” / full copy of a nested sequence in Premiere Pro CS6? (i.e. constituent components are all copied) Understood and thanks. However my preference was that when Premiere Pro is copying a sequence, that it would also make true, independent copies of the components that the copy of the sequence should contain. It's inconvenient that this has to be considered manually by the user. |

Which music sw should I consider for aligning audio waveforms to MIDI piano roll, looping MIDI, managing program change, SysEx? +1 Thanks @ObscureRobot - which application are you referring to regarding alignment marks? Is any of this available in GarageBand or Ardour do you know? I like the idea of getting Logic (or maybe Pro Tools) but for free is welcome. |

Which music sw should I consider for aligning audio waveforms to MIDI piano roll, looping MIDI, managing program change, SysEx? +1 @ObscureRobot for the point on SysEx. With my software background I wondered if it would ever be possible to define SysEx as a XML Language and describe various devices with that and use the XML to drive a generic SysEx engine to provide a clever way of representing vendor-specific stuff. Myself I (incompletely) developed a tool called "MIDIFS" for a final year degree project years ago, which presented the Korg M1's (which I still own today) patch memory as a file system to enable drag drop of patches to a host computer's file system. |

Which music sw should I consider for aligning audio waveforms to MIDI piano roll, looping MIDI, managing program change, SysEx? +1 Warrior Bob (indeed about the specs), +1 Friend of George (tips on SysEx). Warrior Bob, in Logic or Pro Tools, can you see the audio waveform side by side with the Piano Roll, so that, for example, one could check that the 2 are in time with each other? |
