Periodic loss of clock over S/PDIF Sounds like some kind of ground-loop problem. I can't understand why they keep using asymmetric Coax-S/PDIF rather than optical or AES/EBU. |

“Subtracting” specific audio using an Isolated track from the same mix. @MBraedley: not using the same track will, in fact, get virtually nothing and will definitely make things worse. |

Is it safe to plug in and send audio from XLR and 1/4th" inputs into powered speakers at the same time? XLR ports are not exactly common with line mixers, you'll probably need to go with a real small-scale console then, like Mackie 402 VLZ3 or Peavey PV6. These don't have XLR outs, but you don't really need these, do you? The Behringer 1204 has, but it also brings quite a lot of white noise... |

Is it safe to plug in and send audio from XLR and 1/4th" inputs into powered speakers at the same time? Right. I thought you were only going to XLR by adapters. You can certainly go back to 1/4" by adapters, or choose another mixer that has XLR inputs. |

How do I isolate parts of a song according to pan position? @Chris: even with a lot more than 10 bands to do this (not a problem in principle) it will work only if the signal you want to isolate has almost no frequency overlap with any other signal in the mix. But you're not likely to find this in many mixes. — As for this nyquist plugin: it does little but take the difference of the L and R channels. This way you can eliminate anything that's panned center without any stereo effects, but you can't isolate anything (unless it happens to be the only signal that's not mono at center). |

How do I isolate parts of a song according to pan position? To answer the question simplified (but at least 80% correct): you can't. Isolating parts from a mixed down track needs a lot more information than just the pan position, unless it's a very simple mix. |

How to connect unbalanced output to balanced input? This is the usual solution. Note that a passive DI has a too-low impedance to be used properly with passive bass/guitar pickups, so unless the bass itself is active the DI needs to be. |

How do I line up multiple tracks to a 'master track' in Audition? It is tedious and error-prone? It shouldn't be. Just record the entire session as one file on every end, then synchronize these files at one single point, that should be sufficient to have everything in sync (provided everyone uses properly clocked digital recorders). You can cut away pauses etc. afterwards. |

Convolution matrix for converting 1080i to DVD? A good idea, however the main problem with DVDs is their outdated MPEG-2 codec, for which it is probably rather benefitial to reduce detail through the somewhat crude gaussian filter step. |

How to eliminate guitar amp hum (software and hardware amps) Software amp simulations do not usually introduce too much mains hum themselves (at least you should be able to turn this down in proper designs), but they do of course always greatly amplify any hum coming from the guitar. Perhaps it's best to start with the guitar pickups: there are many types of humbuckers and hum-free single coils (stacked humbuckers) nowadays, which eliminate this kind of static while sounding no worse than traditional pickups (though most vintage enthusiasts claim otherwise). It's also necessary that the guitar is properly shielded (grounded tin foil works great!). |

How to connect two (2) MIDI devices to an Audio Interface with only one (1) MIDI In port? Said Behringer pedalboard (not really a reference obviously), a Roland PK 5A, and an old Korg drum module. So yeah, I really haven't had that much experience, maybe I was just lucky. |
