Yes, I have been using Mercurial (hg) with Logic Pro for a while now and with great results. Also coming from a software development background I find the main benefit to be the comments for each changeset and the ability to go back and branch from an earlier version to try out alternate production or composition techniques.
As mentioned you will likely pay ...

You can first try if a compressor with ≈ 400 ms attack, 30 ms decay, and rather violent threshold/ratio (something like -40 dB and ≥8:1) settings does the trick. If not, try a more conventional compressor setting (if the synthesized guitar has little dynamic range, that may not even be necessary) and put an expander/noise gate after it, which triggers only ...

That characteristic drum and bass sound often comes from a sampled drum break that's been sped up. To imitate that you'll need to go beyond a 1/16th note grid.
I believe Redrum allows you increase the resolution to 64 steps per beat -- that may be enough to get you started. Try squeezing a full-measure funk pattern just in between the 11 and the 13.

This is a list of software that is compatible with Reason's Rewire. since it's not on that list, it's not possible, at least not in any sort of convenient way.
Rewire does work with Audition but I'm not familiar with this software. If Audition syncs with ...

If both Record and Reaper support MIDI sync from an external source, you can use virtual ports with MIDI Yoke (or similar), and then a separate application (such as MIDIOX) to send the play/stop parts.
This isn't Rewire though, so the loop start and end points won't work.

I have had pretty good luck with Reaper on my old single processor PC (Reaper also works on the Mac).
I haven't done anything with sampling, but even with my slow computer I have been able to play back several tracks with EQ and lots of effects on each channel without taxing the system much. Reaper also has a way to link to other computers running reaper ...

Although this violates a bit my request of not using SoundFlower(bed) or Aggregate Devices, on Mac OSX's Audio MIDI settings, if you create an Aggregate Device with your Audio Interface hardware AND Soundflower (2-channels), you should be able to "feed" into it from your DAW and "listen" to SoundFlower from ScreenFlow.
Here's a Video Tutorial that shows how ...

Not really. The trouble is the hit detection for the conversion is sort of hit and miss. And most tools, to even get semi-accurate hit detection happening, require you give it the BPM (as opposed to auto-detecting the BPM) before extracting hits.
There's a separate product available from Propellerhead for the creation of REX files called ReCycle that you ...

HHHH HHHH HHHH HHHH
This is the most basic DnB rhythm.
Divide your measure up into 16th notes. Each group of 4 above is one beat.
Start with the kick, notated with B. Make your bass on the downbeat, and the up of the 3rd beat. Add your snare right on beats 3 and 4. Put ...

It's possible to do bi-directional audio and MIDI streams between programs with ReWire but it's not possible to do bi-directional audio streams with Reason.
Reason doesn't allow incoming, realtime audio streams. It's just something Propellerhead has never wanted Reason to be. Similar to how it doesn't support VST plugins.
I wish it was possible. I sure ...

I had tempo problems with Ableton/Reason using Rewire, the solution I found was simple:
Move all tempo automation from Ableton to Reason.
For some weird reason, it works fine when Reason changes tempo, but not when Live does it.
Maybe this solution can be use in your case.

This is a fairly simple process. There are other ways to do this, and I am assuming that you just want to control Reason's sounds with your drum kit (recording the actual audio from your DM6 is a separate question), but here is the simplest way to get started.
ON YOUR DM6:
Press PATTERN to select Pattern Select Mode
Press VALUE +/- to select "--n"
This ...

You need the Apple Camera Connection Kit which includes a connector with a USB outlet. Just use this and a USB cable to connect to your Mac. If the app supports CoreMIDI it should work just fine.
You can check using "Audio MIDI Setup.app" on your Mac. This is also the place where you configure your Mac to use Wireless MIDI sent from an iPad. (no cables ...

A good track starts with a good mix. A good mix is needed before any mastering is done on it. The 'dull soft' sound is due to a number of factors and you have mentioned most of them (eq, compression, stereo spread, saturation and volume). As each sound in your mix is different, there are no hard rules to getting this sounding 'bigger'. Different parts of the ...

There is a lot of stereo panning back and forth on the hihats supplemented by the clicks left and right. There is also some tight echo on the hats - notice also how the rest of the musicical instruments (apart from the scratches) do not impose on the mid upper and upper bounds of the spectrum thus leaving the hats and clicks to stand out proud and not ...

Increase the release time on the sampler, it's on the bottom right hand corner or at the top in the Global Controls. It may or may not sound the way you expect or hope it would sound. It's the only thing that can be done within NN-XT itself, as far as I know, to increase the sustain of the note. The sample will greatly influence how nice this turns out.

The only solution is Self-Contain song settings. However, it doesn't work with refills, it cannot be included into songs. So you would have to make a habit of saving your refills with your songs. . You can also watch this video:

Dull and muffled sounds to me like frequency space. That is, there aren't high frequencies where you would expect them. The low frequencies are lacking, etc... Within Reason, that is probably an issue with EQing.
The volume issue is likely related to something called gain structuring. Imagine, instead of Reason, you actually had all of that outboard ...

I know this is pretty old but you will need to go and update your version of Reason to 3.0.5. Per the proppellerhead website:
This is a mac-only update designed to bring Intel Mac compatibility to Reason. This update also includes the latest version of ReWire, so non-Intel mac users still benefit a lot from this update. With the new ReWire, Reason's sample ...

I think that the RAM on your computer is the problem.
Each time you install an update to Windows it will take up a tiny bit more memory just for the OS. I have an old laptop with Windows XP on it. With a clean install it would play DVDs just fine. After installing all the updates it would use more memory for the OS and DVD playback would be jumpy.
For ...

This is not the most suited answer but it's what I got from Reddit.
From Reddit user valiantism:
Ok I think I got fairly close. I made a thor with 3 wavetable oscs.
OSC1: PPG 8 HP VCF @ position 44. Turn the octave down to 3. OSC2: PPG 8 HP VCF @ position 34. Turn the semi up to 7. OSC3: PPG 27 Formant @ position 2.
Route all 3 oscs to a Lowpass ...

I don't know what your budget is, but I would recommend these specs:
You have a choice between the i5 2500k and the i7 2600k. The i5 is cheaper than the i7 and comes close in performance.
Between 8 and 16 GB of DDR3.
A dedicated sound card.
If you are building this computer yourself, a good motherboard is always a necessity. I would recommend checking out ...

Personally, I've been doing this by recording WITHIN the DAW and then syncing the tracks. You could even do this by creating some noise in the DAW that also has a visual aspect (e.g., turning a synth on and off).
I'm working with Ableton Live and a video camera (and an iPad, to be honest), but same difference. Results here:

It certainly is possible in Record, but in Reason too, although dreadful. Nonetheless, I will explain the procedure in Reason:
First you will have to export material you are working on into .wav/.aif clips. Then the clips have to be loaded into either Redrum or NN-XT. The actual remixing process is theoretically simple, simply trigger the audio clips in the ...

I used Reaper v4.261 To successfully convert a number of .rx2 files to .wav files
A trial version can be downloaded from http://www.reaper.fm/
Once installed, Go to:

Batch File/Item converter

A window will pop up - You need to add the files you want to convert into that window by clicking on the "Add" button and ...
