When you record-enable your track you want to click on the Monitor button on the channel to enable software monitoring. Then you'll be able to hear the track, with any realtime plugins, while playing. This introduces some latency though and you may find it's unacceptably high to play well using this approach. Here's a great YouTube video that talks about ...

In REAPER you need to ensure that it knows where the Superior Drummer VST effect is installed. Go to Options | Preferences and in the Plug-Ins | VST section check to see if the install path for the Superior Drummer VST DLL is included in the list: If it isn't, click Add and select the install folder for the VST DLL. Now click Re-scan. If you still can't ...

What you are looking for is a feature often called "render stems". For each track it contains a single WAV file rendered from the start of that track. Yes this is very wasteful of disk space, but you can at least easily import the files into any other DAW and they will line up correctly. It is up to you whether you need to export with effects on or not. ...

I'll answer for Reaper since that is what I use. The LPD8 sends out MIDI controller messages. The first thing you need to do is to ensure that your DAW is receiving those messages. In Reaper, go to preferences and make sure the LPD8 is enabled as a MIDI in device. To use it to control drums, select Track | Insert Virtual Instrument on New Track... and ...

Check your Lock Settings for the project. Press Shift+L (or right click the Locking icon in the toolbar) to open the dialog. When I selected Enable Locking and Time Selection, I was unable to make a time selection by clicking and dragging in the Timeline. Clicking the lock icon in the toolbar will toggle Locking.

Clicking the IO button on the track brings up the routing for the track. I had not selected anything for MIDI Hardware output. Selecting the GM wavetable synth from my sound card fixed the problem. For an excellent guide on getting started with Reaper and MIDI look here (PDF).

OK, I've managed to work this one out myself with a bit of experimenting. You right-click the item and select Item Processing and then Move Items to Source Preferred Position. This puts it back in the right place, but will leave any fade outs or fade ins that were introduced as crossfades by the original moving of the item. It looks like you have to remove ...

If both Record and Reaper support MIDI sync from an external source, you can use virtual ports with MIDI Yoke (or similar), and then a separate application (such as MIDIOX) to send the play/stop parts. This isn't Rewire though, so the loop start and end points won't work.

-Open the preferences pane. -click on "Media" under the "Appearance" heading in the left hand menu. -check both boxes for "muted" and "unmuted" in the middle of the panel. -click "apply". now you should see a mute button both when the item is muted and when it is unmuted. be aware, the buttons will disappear when the the view is zoomed out very far anyway, ...

In Reaper, you can view controller data in the MIDI editor. To open the editor, right click on the MIDI track you wish to view and select Built-in MIDI editor->Open in editor. In the MIDI editor there is a drop down list in the lower left corner. Select 64 Hold Pedal (on/off). You should see the sustain pedal controller data in the bottom portion of ...

Ah! Here's a good answer from someone who had the same frustration as I experienced:

You need the VST loaded in the track's FX list. MIDI data in REAPER tracks passes through the FX, and there needs to be some plugin there to interpret the MIDI and produce sounds, which are then passed to the track's output. This is true for any VST instruments in REAPER, not just Studio Drummer. Don't forget to check that the track monitoring is set ...

Advanced software in Windows 7 is able to specify the playback device to use and thus will get routed based on a choice. Any software that is not able to choose a device on it's own will automatically be routed to the default audio device according to the options under Sounds in Control Panel. If you update the default sound device to be the headphones and ...

I have two playback devices in my notebook, one's called something like "Speakers and Headphones", the other one's called "Communication-Headphones". I'd try to completely disable the second one, worked nicely for me and could maybe work for you. Another possibility is to get a decent audio interface ;)

I have just installed Reaper today, I loaded a vsti and selected my midi keyboard but no sound was coming out of it when I played but when I pressed record and listened to what was recorded I could hear the music. I noticed that there was a "Record monitoring" button (see the pictures below). I clicked it, pressed a key and I was able to hear what I was ...

You are talking about changing the tempo of a track. This can be done with many tools (probably all tools you would call a daw) including Reaper. There are basically two approaches. Compressing the wave. Imagine a given file of audio data is 44100 samples long and this took 1 second to play. If you kept all 44100 samples but changed timing so that that all ...

Reaper can set the tempo at any point during the song, or smoothly transition from one tempo to another over a fixed amount of time. Use the Time Signature/Tempo Change option from the Insert menu, and to gradually move the tempo from the BPM of the section you mixed in from to the BPM of the section you will mix to, just use the Gradually transition tempo ...

Recording software like Reaper can generally record as many channels of audio as the device they're using supports. If the device defined in Reaper's audio preferences only has stereo inputs, then that's all you're getting. If the device has eight inputs, then Reaper can record eight channels. You need to give Reaper (for example, could be any recording ...

I just had a similar thing happen; When I moved the triangular things along the ruler at the top, suddenly the time selection wouldn't change (the ruler changed, but the highlighted area didn't move, nor did the selection time meter. Solution for me was under Options, I had to check "Loop points linked to time selection" Not sure how it got unchecked, ...

ASIO4All seems to be one of the very few audio drivers that will let you aggregate soundcards, so if it doesn't work then your options are limited. Have you considered getting yourself an audio interface with enough inputs and outputs for your requirements (e.g. the Tascam US-600)?
