(S/PDIF) An acronym for Sony/Phillips Digital Interconnect Format (aka Sony/Phillips Digital Interface). Carries either PCM 2-channel or compressed multi-channel surround. Cabling can be either a coaxial copper with an RCA connector, or a optical fiber with a TOSLINK connector.
