I just purchased a Yamaha 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System without realizing I needed an receiver/amplifier, as well. All of the ones I can find seem to be intended for a home theatre system (too big physically and too many inputs). I just want to connect the speakers to an Airport Express (or something similar) using an optical cable to get surround sound (although stereo would be OK, as well), and stream music and movies from my phone or laptop. Can anyone suggest possible solutions, please?

Not sure that this pertains to audio or video production. – JoshP Nov 2 '12 at 12:27
Perhaps not. I got here via a suggestion from BenV on meta.SO: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/45663/… – Andrey Fedorov Nov 2 '12 at 19:43
Ah, I see. It looks like this Area51 proposal is the only thing going right now. I just personally followed it, as I'd also like to see a home A/V SE site. Perhaps you could offer your question here as an example question there. – JoshP Nov 2 '12 at 20:44
Good idea, done. – Andrey Fedorov Nov 4 '12 at 19:56
