I'm looking to buy one and I'd like to know what I should look for, as I've never bought one before.

-1. Sorry, there really is no good answer to this post. Please edit this question and add information as to what you want to do with it. Are you mixing two CD players to DJ live with it, or do you want to use it for live-recording a symphony orchestra? – Pelle ten Cate Dec 8 '10 at 13:53

Welcome to Audio.SE and thanks for your question. But I have to close some of these vague requests while we're still early in beta. What we are looking for is users to elaborate and get very, very specific about the situation you are trying to solve. You can see by all the "it depends" answers on this system why "expert answers" will come from very specific questions that can be answered at least somewhat objectively. Please feel free to try again. Thanks. – Robert Cartaino Dec 8 '10 at 18:16
Perhaps this question is too general, but I feel compelled to help you out anyway. If selecting a board for live sound and your on a tight budget, make sure your board has mute, solo, and signal indicators for each channel. There will come a time when you're very happy you have each. If you want to know more, then asking about each in their own question might help you avoid the not-specific-enough trap. – Benji York Dec 17 '10 at 21:37
