I've got a large WMA music collection that I want to convert to MP3 or AAC. Yes, I know it's not recommended to convert audio files from one format to another because I'll lose quality, HOWEVER, my library is too large to re-rip all my CD's again.

I started by using iTunes, but iTunes drops the 'Album Artist' during the conversion and that presents a big problem when organizing the library post-conversion.

Any recommendations on good quality software (for Windows 7) that I should use to do this large conversion??

I want to upload my entire collection to Amazon's new Cloud Player but unfortunately it doesn't support WMA. – Rob Richardson Apr 20 '11 at 16:19

XRECODE does a great job of batch conversion. It supports multiple processors to improve performance. It keeps your tags (but not embedded album covers) during conversion.

The current version is not free, but you can download the previous version for free.

I am currently using the free version on Windows 7.

To convert the files, all you need to do is drag and drop the root folder into the XRECODE window, select the file type you wish to convert to and click go.

LameXP works with WMA files just fine. It converts in multiple threads, an advantage over other converters, especially for your large library. http://lamexp.sourceforge.net/
